2 February 2007 - 20:01Make Keywording in iPhoto easy.

I just wrote a review about Keyword Manager, an iPhoto plugin which I’ve found truly indispensable for keeping my keywords in iPhoto up to date and accurate, whilst saving time (and keystrokes). It’s pretty ground breaking for my iPhoto Library actually, signs of organisation are showing…

25 January 2007 - 12:07Review: Sony GPS-CS1 (with the inevitable mac-bias).

In advance of a post detailing my current photography workflow at The Apple Blog, here’s the first of a few reviews on products and software involved. The Sony GPS-CS1 is a fairly recently released gadget from Sony that logs your current location via GPS to a text file in it’s internal memory, for fun and games when you get back to your PC. Although currently it only works natively on Core 2 Duo MacBooks, (of which I’m a fortunate owner), it should work natively on all Macs soon. I personally love it and would thoroughly recommend it for photography or GPS geeks.

16 January 2007 - 17:48What next?

I have quite a few ideas for posts / downloads here on newformula, and looking at my web stats it would seem that I get quite a few hit and run people looking for icon downloads, but also a significant number of visitors who take time reading blog posts or articles.

So, feed readers and visitors, please leave me a comment as to what you might like to see next on newformula - I have a listed a few articles currently floating around my drafts folder here, as well as some icons to be added, but none are complete.

Sitting in drafts:

  • Automating the Recording and Export of radio (or TV) shoes using EyeTV 2
  • My iPhoto, GPS (Geotagging) and Flickr workflow
  • A Sony Ericsson K800i Mac-centric review, looking at how it plays well with the Mac
  • Travelling with your gadgets - packing and minimising cables, chargers etc whilst covering all bases!
  • Mac centric review of the Sony GPS-CS1 gps location logger - great for photography

Plus more Nokia and Blackberry Icons….

So, up to you really. What do you want to see next? More Icon downloads (of the same, or a new series?) More articles from the above list, or anything else at all really? I’m all ears!

3 January 2007 - 22:30Incase’s New Range Preview.

Courtesy of the guys at incase I’d like to bring you some sneak photos of their forthcoming range of cases, which are due for release in March 2007. I personally really rate the incase gear, it’s solid, well designed and classy - a perfect match for your Apple goodies. You can check their products out at your local Apple Store, or at the online Apple Store too. Unfortunately in my opinion they aren’t sold anywhere else (at least in the UK) which rules out getting them anywhere else, but do a search for incase on the online Apple store and you should get a good idea of what they’re about. Enjoy!

6 December 2006 - 9:55Just why would I want an iTV?

My latest post at The Apple Blog:

For about 8 months now I’ve been a proud owner of a Mac Mini thats sole purpose in life is to reside underneath my TV. Of course it functions as a media server, but it is a full blown mac after all so can do pretty much anything you want. Here’s the rundown of what mine gets used for:

  • iTunes Library Sharing
  • Serving downloaded and personal video via airport
  • PVR (for Freeview Digital TV here in the UK) via EyeTV for DTT, recording both TV and Radio
  • Spam Filter for 2 email accounts (using Spamsieve)
  • Downloading torrents using Transmission
  • Watching/Downloading Video podcasts with Democracy
  • Front Row/Media Central playback via the TV (of course)
  • Quick, accessible backup server for important files from other computers in the household or at work via FTP

I guess what I’m trying to point out that having a machine that is reliable and always on, doing things in the background for you so you don’t have to is just plain cool. On any given day you can expect Mail, Spamsieve, EyeTV, iTunes, Transmission and Democracy to be open, all doing their thing in the background.

So how are Apple going to sell me one?

28 November 2006 - 11:18Nokia and Blackberry online now.

I have updated both the Nokia and Blackberry Icon pages so that all the download links are now present and correct. I know that I am missing quite a few different models from these manufacturers, but as you can imagine the list is pretty endless as to those that need creating. So bear with me, it will take a while, but I’ll eventually get there.

Some previews:

Nokia

Blackberry

Also, I have realised that another major flaw is present on the site… you may have noticed a small iPhoto icon next to each phone model that looks like this:

Clicking this mysterious, unexplained link downloads an Automator workflow for your mac which is currently completely undocumented anywhere on the site. Sorry about that! It’s a remnant of the old newformula.org where I had some automator workflows available for download. These will be coming back soon, but in the meantime I managed to forget to explain that random link.

The workflow that is downloaded is designed to grab the currently selected photos in your iPhoto library, convert them to the optimum screen size to that specific mobile and then send them via bluetooth to your phone. Very handy for showing off pics on our phone, using as wallpaper or screensavers. Not so handy that I actually documented it though. Useless! So I will make getting the instructions online for this as a priority - maybe today, if not in the next few days.

25 November 2006 - 21:25More News.

Two things:

  1. The Sony Ericsson icon page has been fixed. It was showing Garmin icons for the last week. My mistake, won’t do it again.
  2. I have decided I won’t be posting any more personal stuff at newformula.org - photos, thoughts etc. will move to their new (old) home at globeriding.com - to be up soon. That way, if you want the geeky stuff, subscribe to the RSS at newformula, if you want the personal stuff, subscribe to the RSS at globeriding. To easy.

Done.
