16 June 2005 - 7:36Small thoughts.

I am really intrigued by the idea of Nokia’s 770, which would almost take the place of the powerbook I have, at the minute anyway. However, I can’t help but wonder if and when the Sony PSP browser will come into being, as this would surely negate half the required functionality of the 770, with the exception of bluetooth as an input device.

So basically, come on Sony and get your act together and give us some really cool reasons to want PSP’s.

I have now added to the mac page my Movie to SE workflow which makes it easy to transfer movies to your Sony Ericsson mobile. Comments and improvement welcome.

14 June 2005 - 5:14In the works.

I am currently building a few more S700i related automator actions for general release, including one to shunt movies via bluetooth or memory stick, and one to grab MP3’s from iTunes. Should be online in the next week or so.

This is also going around the interweb at the minute, but I felt like announcing my superiority by saying I have been doing something similar using Spark and Applescript for some time. I’m guessing Mail Act-On is wayyy easier to customise thanks to its usage of Mail’s Rules to generate its own commands.

8 June 2005 - 7:16PSP and MP3’s

Didn’t know if it was common knowledge, but after a couple of weeks of PSP ownership I was beginning to wonder why some MP3’s on my memory stick are not shown with the correct ID3 tag info on my PSP. Artwork shows up fine, as set in iTunes, but the track name was just the file name and no other info present.

The odd thing was that it seemed it like it was my own ripped music which I know to have up to date tags etc from iTunes that wasn’t displaying, but some mp3’s from a friends iPod which was less strictly formatted than mine was displaying the tags. A bit of detective work narrowed it down to the weird issue that the PSP will display ID3 info from tags with v2.2, but not from v2.4, as per the latest version of iTunes. Of course you could convert all the tags back to v2.2 (I don’t think there would be any real loss of functionality on the mac side of things), but I just don’t use the PSP enough for music listening to justify the hassle, as well as the ‘risk’ of converting the tags back.

Just thought I would inform, as I haven’t seen anything on the net about this.

UPDATE: The same applies to MP3’s on the Sony Ericsson S700i also. Also, it appears that ID3 tags of v.2.3 work OK too, not just 2.2. v2.4 seems to be the problem.

8 June 2005 - 7:06S700i & Automator.

This is the first of a few workflows I have knocked up, which uses your Sony Ericsson S700i to transfer photos from a predetermined album in iPhoto to your memory stick, making them compatible for viewing along the way. The screen on this baby is truly amazing, clear and bright, and as such is great for showing off photos to those around you. Using this you can do so with photos not just taken with your phone.

I recommend you read the readme thoroughly before use, as there are some configurations to edit before running for the first term, as well as a few warnings- for example it has to delete any photos on your phone first, as well as empty the trash at different points in the workflow.

UPDATE: Fixed the first problem- forgot to ensure that all invisible files in the relevant folders on the memory stick were deleted so they don’t show up via the phone’s UI.
